Welcome signboard for us from the MACEFCOOP farmers ; our visit at MACEFCOOP coffee mill
Most of the people in Manyu are small farmers. They grow their food on their farms and have small cacao or coffee farms to get cash money. MACEFCOOP is their cooperative. MACEFCOOP markets their produce under Fair Trade conditions. Since 1992 we help MACEFCOOP. MACEFCOOP past tough times, but during the last 3 to 4 years it’s really developing. This year SNOWBALL Deutschland e.V. (our association) applied to the German Government for a big second hand truck to carry the produce to Douala. The truck is now with MACEFCOOP. The farmers receive only once a year money, when they sell their coffee or cacao. Therefore very often when a family member falls seriously sick, they do not have money for her or his treatment. We discussed the idea of a “patient card” with MACEFCOOP. Whoever has at least 20.000 CFA (31€) in the savings and loans account at MACEFCCOOP could be issued a patient card, which would be regarded by the four major health institutions of the region.
